Adib inquest postponed as lawyer unwell

Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim’s helmet rests on a shelf above his serial number 17476.
SHAH ALAM: The inquest into the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim was postponed today due to the absence of a lawyer on health grounds.
A civilian and a medical professional were initially scheduled to testify before coroner Rofiah Mohamad Mansor.
Lawyer Kamaruzaman A Wahab, representing Adib’s family, requested that the inquest be postponed as Syazlin Mansor, representing the housing and local government ministry and the fire and rescue department, was unwell and absent.
Inquest conducting officer Hamdan Hamzah did not raise any objection to the request.
“Given that this is an unavoidable situation and Syazlin is the only lawyer representing the ministry, I accept the request for postponement of the inquest,” said Rofiah.
The inquest at the Shah Alam Coroner’s Court will resume at 10.30am tomorrow.
The inquest was called by the government amid conflicting claims on the cause of Adib’s death.
He was part of a response team sent from the Subang Jaya fire and rescue station to the Sri Maha Mariamman temple area on Nov 27.
Adib, who was an Emergency Medical and Rescue Services unit personnel attached to the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department, was allegedly beaten up by a mob.

He died at the National Heart Institute on Dec 17. - FMT
