Bersatu Youth claims Syed Saddiq almost assaulted by BN supporters

SEMENYIH POLLS | Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was almost assaulted by a group believed to be BN supporters in Semenyih this morning.
The claim was made by its youth assistant secretary Ahmad Redzuan Mohamed Shafi who was there with Syed Saddiq during the incident.
"There were four of us - Syed Saddiq, his security officer, his political secretary, and I - walking towards the car from the nomination centre.
"Then, BN supporters began to provoke us from afar," he told Malaysiakini.
Redzuan said the rowdy blue shirt-clad supporters hurled profanities at Saddiq and the incident almost escalated into an assault.
"The group of five people turned aggressive and pushed to assault the minister.
Fortunately, police who were present there managed to control the situation," said Redzuan.
KiniTV managed to capture the incident which showed some traffic police officers escorting Saddiq to his car while a group of BN supporters trailed him.
'Gangster culture'
Meanwhile, Saddiq said in a statement that he will lodge a police report on the incident.
"If they want to insult me, that is their right. But to physically assault, that's too much... I am disappointed to see the gangster culture in our society... Maly Allah SWT open up their hearts and minds," he said.
Saddiq said he did not use a driver today as he did not come as a minister.
"While on the way to my car, the BN supporters barged towards me. When I was insulted, I just greeted them and walked away but they followed me."
He thanked the police and PAS security team Unit Amal PAS for protecting him.
"Without them, I don't know what would happen to me. This incident reminds me of why I joined politics. It's not to create enemies but to serve."
Kajang district police chief assistant commissioner Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yusoff confirmed the incident, saying that police are investigating. - Mkini
