Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said claims of a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had never arisen within Pakatan Harapan.
"Amanah and the other Harapan component parties are always solidly behind Mahathir in efforts to implement thorough reforms and improve the country's administration," Mohamad said in a statement today.
The coup speculations, he said, were purposely played up by the opposition to shift the rakyat's attention from the charges and investigations against a number of their leaders.
It was also meant to distract from the crisis of trust in the opposition's leadership among their members, said Mohamad who is also defence minister.
"Amanah also believes these efforts are done to threaten stability and disturb the focus of the Harapan government which is working hard for the rakyat's welfare," he said.
PAS leaders recently claimed that there are attempts within the Harapan coalition to mount a no-confidence vote against Mahathir in Parliament.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan claimed this is why his party had signed a written agreement to support the prime minister "if anything happened to him". - Mkini
