The Kuala Lumpur High Court questioned a police officer over why a court order which allowed Rosmah Mansor to inspect jewellery seized by the police has not been complied with.
According to Rosmah's lawyer N Rajivan, the court will have to hear from the police before deciding on an application for a stay of proceedings in the suit brought by Lebanese firm Global Royalty Trading SAL against Rosmah.
The firm is seeking to recover 44 pieces of jewellery valued at US$14.8mil from Rosmah. The items included tiara, diamond necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings that were sent to her in February last year.
The items were believed to have been seized in mid-May by the police after raiding properties linked to Rosmah and her husband Najib Abdul Razak.
Rajivan said his client was filing for a stay of proceedings because she has yet to view the items nor received confirmation from the police that the items were seized.
"We are saying that the trial cannot proceed because it will be prejudicial to our client," he said.
In view of this, Bukit Aman anti-money laundering division head Foo Wei Min will have to appear in court tomorrow to show cause for failing to heed previous court orders before Judicial Commissioner Wong Chee Lin.
According to the police, some 12,000 pieces of jewelry were seized from properties linked to Najib and Rosmah during the raids last year.
It has yet to be determined if the 44 pieces sought by Beirut-based Global Royalty Trading were part of the haul. - Mkini
