SEMENYIH POLLS | Guar Chempedak assemblyperson Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail is one of the first Umno defectors to back Pakatan Harapan by making an appearance in the Semenyih by-election campaign trail today.
Speaking to constituents during a meet-and-greet session in Ladang Rinching, Ku Abd Rahman urged voters to not change "what you have today."
"I will campaign here on and off. I will go home today and be back again.
"I have yet to meet my former comrades (from Umno), but even if I do, there should be no problem. We are friends, we have our own ideologies, and we respect one another. We are a democracy," he said.
Ku Abd Rahman added that he was still thinking about his approach in persuading voters to support Harapan in the March 2 by-election.
"I'm just doing my job, to tell the truth. I believe in telling the truth, and don't believe in lies".
He further urged Semenyih voters to maintain the status quo when electing their next assemblyperson.
"Keep what you all have today, don't change. We only change things that are not good, why do we want to change a good government?
"We must defend what we have, and continue supporting the Harapan government so that Harapan remains in control of Selangor," he said.
Ku Abd Rahman quit Umno to become an independent in November last year and joined Bersatu the following month.
Meanwhile, Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir, who was also present at the event, said more former Umno MPs who have defected Bersatu are expected to join the campaign trail.
"I think some of them will (join). Actually, all of them have volunteered. We are trying to sort (them) in, they might be of help in areas where there are strong Umno supporters.
"They can personally explain why they left Umno, and maybe then Umno supporters will understand," Mukhriz said. - Mkini
