Hadi: Nik Abduh spoke about Umno money 'in an academic sense'

PAS central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz's remarks about receiving funds from Umno was made in an academic sense, party president Abdul Hadi Awang said.
"I don't have the recording but I was informed that it was more towards a scholarly or academic discussion on whether or not someone's aid can be accepted.
"(For example) a sundry shop owner, when people come to his shop, must he ask where that person got money to buy his goods?" Hadi said at a press conference in Marang, Terengganu, last night.
Nik Abduh is purported to have said in a recording that PAS had asked for RM2 million from Umno and that this request was made with the knowledge of a top PAS leader.
Among others, Nik Abduh said the funds were used for the last Sarawak state election (in 2016) and in various covert programmes to defeat DAP.
Last year, Nik Abduh had denied allegations surrounding the recording as "nonsense and slander".
He also said last week that the issue was revived to quash the blossoming alliance between Umno and PAS.
However, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed yesterday that it was Nik Abduh in the recording, though he said that it was not portrayed in the proper context.
The recording of Nik Abduh resurfaced after Hadi settled out of court his defamation suit against Sarawak Report over claims that PAS leaders received RM90 million from former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
However, Hadi said, Nik Abduh's remarks were not connected to the alleged RM90 million. - Mkini
