Judge's affidavit to be served on AG Monday, says Sangeet

Lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo said the explosive affidavit by Court of Appeal judge Hamid Sultan Abu Backer will be served on the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) on Monday together with her reply.
She was responding to a source who told Malaysiakini that the AGC has yet to be furnished with a copy of the affidavit, which was filed last Thursday and reported by the media.
"My reply (to the Chief Justice's special officer's affidavit) is due Monday. So we will serve both together.
"The timeline given by the court is until Feb 25," she told Malaysiakini.
Earlier, the source questioned the delay in serving the affidavit, which was filed in support of Sangeet's application to declare that the chief justice failed to defend the integrity of the judiciary over the alleged instances of judicial interference involving her late father Karpal Singh’s sedition case.
"The AGC is acting for the chief justice's office and it (the affidavit) has not been served to us.
"We think that the affidavit was leaked collaterally (by Hamid's lawyers)," claimed the source on condition of anonymity.
A check revealed that Hamid's affidavit was prepared by the firm of Karpal Singh and Co, where Sangeet is attached to.
On Wednesday, Malaysiakini reported that the cabinet had agreed to form a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the matter.
This was confirmed by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday.
However, the government has yet to announce the commission's terms of reference and composition. - Mkini
