Muhyiddin: No laws broken with Semenyih welfare programme

SEMENYIH POLLS | Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said today that the distribution of hampers and house renovation offer letters to the people of Semenyih is not in violation of any law.
Muhyiddin, who chairs the Pakatan Harapan election committee for the Semenyih polls, said the house renovations under the Housing Programme for the Hardcore Poor (PPRT) had already been decided on earlier.
"This has nothing to do with the by-election.
"The applications were received a long time ago and the decision was made before the election (was called)," he told a press conference outside Masjid Kampung Batu 3 today.
Muhyiddin noted that this was the information he obtained from Rural and Regional Development Minister Rina Harun.
"For me, there is no violation. If they (BN) want to lodge a report, go ahead," he insisted.
Earlier today, Harapan candidate Muhammad Aiman Zainali denied that the coalition had distributed hampers and house renovation offer letters to locals in Semenyih.
“Those (hampers and offer letters) are not from our side, but I’m not sure where they are from. I think we lodged a police report regarding this," he said.
Aiman was responding to Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki accusing Harapan of bribery.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Asyraf said that he and his team had seen the handouts allegedly being distributed to voters in the polling district of Sungai Jai.
He also published photos of the hampers and envelopes which contained the purported PPRT letters.
