NAJIB – BOSS OF 1MDB – TO BE HAULED UP OVER RM90 MILLION PAS BRIBE IF MONEY FOUND TO HAVE COME FROM HIS SOURCES, WARNS MACC CHIEF

Since the last general election, Najib Abdul Razak has become a frequent visitor to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, where he had even spent the night on one or two occasions.

The former prime minister might have to make another visit, but this depends on whether investigations can confirm that PAS received RM90 million from Umno.

Speaking to Malaysiakini, MACC chief commissioner Shukri Abdull said his officers are now focused on establishing the veracity of the allegation.

“At the moment, we are still not sure (whether Najib’s assistance is required).

“It depends on the outcome of the investigations. For now, MACC must first establish whether the transfer of monies happened,” he added.

Shukri was responding to queries on the progress of the investigations into the claim that Najib, who was also Umno president, had channelled the funds to secure the support of several PAS leaders during the 14th general election.

The claim also included the possibility that the sum originated from 1MDB.

However, Shukri declined to comment when asked how the commission would determine if the monies were transferred.

He said it is important for MACC not to be perceived as having a political motivation for pursuing this matter.

“Let MACC carry out its duties professionally and according to the law.

“I do not want to speculate or make predictions… I would like to stress that MACC is neutral, independent and professional,” he added.

This morning, MACC summoned former PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa and central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz in connection with the case.
