Pakatan coalition in full swing in Semenyih, says DAP

KLANG: Selangor Pakatan Harapan’s machinery is already up and running in Semenyih, where various strategies will be unleashed to ensure the constituency remains in the hands of the ruling coalition, said Selangor DAP vice chairman Ng Suee Lim.
Pakatan partner parties PKR, DAP; Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) have been meeting regularly to map out the strategic plan, he added.
Ng also dismissed talk that there was dissent among the Pakatan parties in regards to the candidate.
Talk has been going around that PKR grassroots members in the constituency are demanding their party candidate contests in Semenyih instead of someone from Bersatu.
“All Pakatan parties are firm in their stand that it will be a Bersatu candidate who will be contesting in the by-election,” said Ng.
There is also speculation that Barisan Nasional will be fielding former Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim in Semenyih.
Khalid fell out with his former PKR comrades after the party ousted him as mentri besar in 2014.
When contacted, Khalid’s long-time aide Faekah Husin said Khalid’s name had been mentioned by certain quarters in regards to the Semenyih by-election.
“It could be because they want to send a message to the government that the current flip flop leaders should be replaced by credible people with integrity,’’ said Faekah.
She alleged Selangor needed a lot of help to get back on its feet as many programmes under its Peduli Rakyat initiative are on hold due to lack of funds.
As for Khalid, Faekah added he was not interested in ‘politicking’ but was concerned about the nation’s weak economy.
“He is willing to help develop and fix the troubled economy,’’ said Faekah.
The state seat fell vacant after the death of Pakatan assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor on Jan 11.
Besides Umno, other candidates expected to contest in the by-election are Arutchelvan and social activist Kuan Chee Heng, joining the race as an independent.
Arutchelvan said PSM was not afraid of facing challenges posed by political giants Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.-Star
