RM90m for PAS' probe: MACC records Ambiga's statement

MACC has recorded former Bersih chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan's statement over the allegation that PAS received RM90 million from Umno during the leadership of former premier Najib Abdul Razak.

A source familiar with the investigation told Malaysiakini that Ambiga was questioned over the issue yesterday. However, it is unclear where her statement was recorded.
“Ambiga's statement has been recorded to verify the allegation by (Sarawak Report editor) Clare (Rewcastle-Brown),” added the source, declining to elaborate.
Ambiga became embroiled in the issue when Rewcastle-Brown named her as the source for her article which suggested that PAS leaders received the colossal sum in exchange for their support in the last general election.
The Sarawak Report editor mentioned this when filing her defence against a defamation suit by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in October 2017.
This led to pressure from PAS for Ambiga to explain herself, to which she replied that her critics were missing the bigger picture about Rewcastle-Brown's claims.
Hadi has since agreed to settle the defamation suit, which he filed in London, outside of court.
Meanwhile, Sinar Harian reported PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah as stating that MACC should also question Ambiga.
"Don't let Ambiga off the hook. MACC must investigate the veracity of the source and news she (allegedly) delivered (to Rewcastle-Brown).
"This is slander created to topple PAS and its leaders," he added.
This morning, a pro-opposition blogger had also filed a police report against Ambiga in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
MACC is currently investigating a report on the RM90 million allegation, which both PAS and Najib have denied. - Mkini
