RTM told to report on failure to broadcast speeches of minister, MB

State broadcaster RTM has been asked to report its failure to provide live coverage of speeches from Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun at a government Chinese New Year event.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said that he would look into allegations that elements of sabotage were involved.
"It was raised last night and I had a look at the posting this morning before I left for the airport.
"I have asked RTM to furnish me with a report. Once I see it, I will do the necessary," he told reporters in George Town today after the launch of YTL Communications and Facebook's Terragraph.
Asked if it was compulsory for RTM and other state-owned media to print or broadcast any speech by a minister, Gobind said, "It is about live coverage."
"I have asked them to let me know the details, particularly for the event that they were requested to attend, on the terms and standard operating procedures.
"I have to look into these things before I comment," he added.
SK Lim, an aid to Loke, asked on Facebook last night if RTM was "sabotaging" the federal government.
According to Lim, not a single word from the two politicians' speeches at the Pakatan Harapan government's inaugural national-level Chinese New Year open house in Seremban last night, was shown live.
"What is this if not sabotage? Heads must roll over the highly possible sabotage against the government administration," his posting read.
Lim demanded an explanation from RTM, saying he would lodge an official complaint with Gobind.
He pointed out that RTM had been tasked with broadcasting the open house celebration.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, deputy prime minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and a host of Negeri Sembilan-based ministers. - Mkini
