PETALING JAYA: PAS is urging the attorney-general to haul the Perak government to court for encroaching into Orang Asli land in Gerik after Putrajaya sued the PAS-led Kelantan administration over a similar offence.
The Islamist party’s deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the nation’s top prosecutor, Tommy Thomas, should not practise double standards.
“The Orang Asli in Perak are claiming that their land had been encroached upon.
“So will the attorney-general be fair in this matter?” the Kubang Kerian MP told FMT.
On Jan 18, Putrajaya filed a suit against the Kelantan government over encroachments into Orang Asli settlements, the first such suit by the federal government involving native land rights.
It also wants an injunction to stop private companies from encroaching into native lands to carry out commercial activities.
The Kelantan government has since defended logging activities in the state, arguing that it was a source of revenue for the east coast state, but said it would halt such activities if the federal government settles the oil royalty payments.
Recently, Orang Asli villagers in Kampung Tasik Cunex, Gerik, set up a blockade following allegations that the state government had encroached into their lands.
The Pakatan Harapan-led administration has since denied the claim.
Yesterday, Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu defended logging activities in the state, adding that if logging is stopped, it could lead to many losing their jobs. - FMT
AG must keep on suing any opposition run state Government if it encroached into Natives lands and PH should sack any of their MB which gave a stupid comment defending their action on native lands encroachment like the present Perak MB. Whats the different between him and Kelantan MB now ?
