U-turn before Sunway toll temporary, says Kesas

KESAS has clarified that the existing U-turn before the Sunway toll was temporary and designed to accommodate traffic from Shah Alam to USJ.
This follows StarMetro's article on Feb 7, titled "Kesas: Fix traffic problem with elevated U-turn."
In a statement Friday (Feb 8), Kesas said the original plan to build an elevated U-turn at the area was laid out in the early stages during the construction of Empire Remix at USJ 1.
However, the failure of this project has caused delay in the upgrading of the At Grade U-turn into an elevated U-turn.
This in response to Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) corporate and strategy management deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid who was quoted saying, "Traffic congestion especially during evening peak hours at Kesas is due to sub-standard U-turn before Sunway Toll."
According to Kesas, the existing U-turn at Sunway Toll Plaza is unable to cater to the higher traffic volume (traffic from Shah Alam to USJ and traffic from Subang Jaya to Klang) and this has led to greater traffic congestion especially during peak hours.
The idea to divert traffic from Subang Jaya to make a U-turn at Sunway Toll Plaza has increased traffic volume and worsened traffic congestion in the area, it said.
It added that the "substandard U-turn" could not continue to support the increasing traffic capacity which has been the leading cause of traffic congestion on the Shah Alam Expressway.
Kesas said MPSJ should have waited for the construction of a proper elevated U-turn, which is part of the Empire Remix project, before implementing their new traffic dispersal scheme.- Star
