An Umno member has lodged a police report against Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman for allegedly filing a false report over his purported assault last week.
Mohd Ismawi Ismail claimed that he was just three metres away from where Umno Youth exco Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris – better known as 'Papagomo' – was said to have had the minister in a headlock.
"He (Syed Saddiq) appeared there (at an area for BN supporters), a place he shouldn't have been in.
"He started the provocation and angered (BN supporters)," he said after filing his report at the Kajang police headquarters today.
Last Saturday, a confrontation broke out between BN supporters and Syed Saddiq's delegation after the nomination process for the Semenyih by-election.
The minister lodged a police report after his encounter with Wan Muhammad, with the Umno Youth leader being arrested the following day.
'Rude remarks'
Ismawi, a 40-year-old army veteran, claimed that some in the minister's delegation showed middle fingers and hurled obscenities at the group of BN supporters on Saturday.
He urged police to investigate Syed Saddiq under Section 182 of Penal Code for making a false report, which is punishable by up to six months' imprisonment and an RM2,000 fine upon conviction.
Ismawi also wants the minister probed under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for allegedly publishing prejudicial remarks on his social media accounts.
When filing his report, Ismawi was accompanied by Selangor Umno Youth vice-chairperson Amin Mohd Syukor, along with some 80 youth wing members from Johor, Terengganu and Pahang.
The group – bearing placards saying "Saddiq is a coward" and "Gomo hugs, not chokes," with one even featuring a pig-like caricature – had gathered outside the Kajang police headquarters in a show of solidarity for Wan Muhammad. - Mkini
