Former Perak Menteri Besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin (photo, above) has been defeated in the Amanah divisional election today.
Sources told Malaysiakini the Sungai Rapat assemblyperson failed to make the cut into the top 15 candidates to secure a seat in the Gopeng division's leadership.
The Gopeng divisional election took place at Hotel Seri Malaysia in Ipoh today. The event was officiated by Malacca Chief Minister Adly Zahari.
Nizar is the incumbent Perak Amanah deputy chairperson.
"In the election, 70 delegates voted to choose 15 out of 22 candidates to fill the divisional committee," the source told Malaysiakini.
The 15 elected candidates later held a second round of voting among themselves to decide who will fill the top positions.
Badrin Abdul Khalid was retained as the division chief while Shahari Anuar was elected as his deputy.
The position of vice-chiefs was filled by Mat Razali Abdul Rahman and Abdul Aziz Omar. - Mkini
