The family of Muniama Rajagopal (photo, above), who died in India last month, claimed that her body was brought back to Malaysia and buried under suspicious circumstances.
The body was exhumed yesterday in Kuala Langat after the family obtained a court order on Aug 19, and was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for a post-mortem.
In a statement, the family's lawyers said Muniama, 35, allegedly died in Chennai on or about July 25, and was buried on July 28.
"The family of the deceased, right from the beginning, was never properly informed of her death, and the body was brought back and buried under suspicious circumstances," they added.
The court order was granted to exhume the body from Perkuburan India, Kampung Sungai Sedu in Jalan Klang Banting.
"The exhumation is for the purpose of post-mortem, which is solely for establishing the cause of death of the deceased," said lawyers M Manogaran, N Kalyana Sundaram and K Thanapakiam in a joint statement. - Mkini
