SEREMBAN: The family of Irish national Nora Anne Quoirin is making plans to bring her remains back to the United Kingdom.
State Women, Family Affairs and Welfare Committee chairman Nicole Tan Lee Koon said Nora Anne's mother Meabh had conveyed this to Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail when the Deputy Prime Minister dropped by the resort to commiserate with the family on Friday (Aug 16).
Tan said Dr Wan Azizah also hugged Nora Anne's two younger siblings, Innes Julia and Maurice Arthur, during the meeting at the resort where the family had been staying up since Nora Anne's disappearance.
"Kak Wan was extremely sad and she sought approval before hugging both the children.
"She told Meabh that she too was saddened by Nora Anne's death, " Tan said, adding that Dr Wan Azizah became teary-eyed during her conversation with Meabh.
Tan said Dr Wan Azizah also told Meabh that the authorities had tried hard to search for Nora Anne, 15, by deploying some 400 personnel and volunteers to search for the teenager, who was missing for 10 days.
The authorities found Nora Anne's remains in a stream some 2.5km from the resort she was staying in at 1.57pm on Tuesday (Aug 13).
Due to the hilly terrain, her remains had to be winched up by helicopter and taken to the hospital for the post-mortem.
The teenager disappeared from the resort she was living with her family on Aug 4.
She had checked into the property with her parents Sebastian Marie Philipe and Meabh as well as siblings, a day earlier.
However, she was not found in her room she shared with her siblings the following morning.
A window in the room that could only be opened from the inside was open.- Star
