The Umno-PAS charter is just a political agreement crafted for the benefit of the two parties and not the people, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today.
In contrast, she added, Pakatan Harapan wants to reflect the plural goals of Malaysia as a multicultural and multireligious country.
"Harapan wants to make our country better by taking into account all the people in the country, which is a plural nation.
"We want to develop Malaysia and share prosperity with all communities," she told reporters at the Sri Satria forum in Putrajaya today.
Wan Azizah said this when asked about the planned Umno-PAS joint charter set for unveiling on Sept 14.
The move will signal an end to the decades-long political feud between the two Malay-based parties.
Through its burgeoning cooperation with PAS, BN emerged victorious in the Cameron Highlands, Semenyih and Rantau by-elections.
Wan Azizah also dismissed claims by Bersatu chief strategist Rais Hussin that Harapan might lose if an election were to be called in the near future.
"As a political party that we must be ready at any time. We are not used to changing the government, and this is the first time.
"Give us the opportunity now we know the realities and financial situation of the country," she said when asked whether Harapan was ready for GE15.
Wan Azizah noted that Harapan had another three and a half years to fulfil its promises and implement projects that would benefit the people. - Mkini
