Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin (photo, above) said it is up to everyone to interpret for themselves what Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad meant when he said there was no cabinet vacancy for Anwar Ibrahim when he makes minor changes to members’ portfolios soon.
“Use your own judgement to interpret Mahathir’s answer,” she said to reporters at her ministry's headquarters in Putrajaya today.
Mahathir had yesterday said that Anwar, who is the PKR president, will not be part of his cabinet when he makes changes to the cabinet portfolios soon.
"We are not having any change or any increase in the number of cabinet (members).
"Since nobody has indicated they want to resign, we have no vacancy,” he said yesterday.
Before the previous general election, Mahathir had said he would step down as prime minister within a few years to make way for Anwar.
However, until now, a clear timeline for the handover has yet to be established.
On a separate issue, Zuraida said the three letters she sent to Anwar to discuss party matters have yet to receive any reply.
“Let’s wait for him to meet me first. There has been no response at all,” she said.
On Aug 28, Zuraida had said she did not attend PKR central leadership meetings because Anwar had yet to respond to the letters she sent him to discuss party matters.
She said those letters were to call for a meeting with Anwar along with selected central leadership members to resolve any issues among them. - Mkini
