Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh has been appointed as the new Johor PKR chief.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said the appointment was decided following a meeting of the Johor PKR leadership this evening.
Even though the appointment of state chiefs is the prerogative of the PKR president, Anwar said the appointment was done based on a vote.
"During the meeting, a voting process was conducted and the decision saw the majority of the division chiefs supporting Syed Ibrahim (above) to replace (Pasir Gudang MP) Hassan Abdul Karim as chairperson," Anwar said in an announcement on Facebook.
Hassan had in December last year rejected his appointment as the Johor PKR chief after raising concerns about the lack of transparency.
He had also proposed that the manner in which the PKR state chiefs are appointed to be reformed.
He later relented but formally submitted his resignation in July.
Anwar's announcement comes ahead of the Tanjung Piai by-election in Johor.
The Election Commission will announce the date of the by-election tomorrow.
