KUALA LUMPUR: A Barisan Nasional MP caused a stir in the Dewan Rakyat after he asked when the Home Ministry will deregister the DAP which he implied had links to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
During the debate on the 2020 Budget, Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) questioned what action the authorities were taking against organisations who were found to have channelled funds to terrorist groups.
“According to the Societies Act 1966, any organisation found to be involved in terror activities can be deregistered. Does the home ministry intend to deregister DAP as it is involved with LTTE?” he said.
Cha Kee Chin (DAP-Rasah) rose to object to Bung’s remarks and urged him to retract his statement. Amid the uproar, RSN Rayer (DAP-Jelutong) cited Standing Orders, saying: “This is too much Yang Berhormat.”
Police have arrested 12 people, including two DAP assemblymen, for investigations into support of the now defunct LTTE, which was engaged in a civil war with the Sri Lankan government for two decades. - FMT
