KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said a controversial pro-China comic book has hidden meanings.
Without elaborating, he said the book’s distribution to schools was planned by someone.
Unfortunately, instead of becoming material for reference, it has become a matter to be laughed at, he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
“And now there’s damage control being done by the party concerned,” he added.
The education ministry has banned distribution of the “Belt & Road Initiative for Win and Winism” to schools.
Education Minister Maszlee Malik told the DAP leadership to reprimand party members for openly criticising the ministry’s decision to halt distribution of the comic book in schools, reminding them of “collective responsibility” and “rule of law”.
Maszlee said that “cheap politics” will only worsen the situation and widen rifts within the coalition.
Earlier, 43 DAP grassroots leaders, including several assemblymen, criticised the move to halt the comic book distribution.
Zahid agreed with Maszlee’s statement and said taking disciplinary action is the right move.
“I don’t want to interfere in other parties’ business.
“But it is proper for any ruling party to be united and understand the do’s and don’t’s as the education minister has said,” said Zahid. - FMT
