DAP reps in LTTE case to be charged tomorrow

DAP's Seremban Jaya assemblyperson P Gunasekaran and Gadek assemblyperson G Saminathan, who are presently detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 over purported links to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), are expected to be charged tomorrow.
Lawyer Harshaan Zamani, who is part of the legal team representing the duo, confirmed the impending charges.
"Yes, we have been informed...They will be charged in the Malacca court in Ayer Keroh," Harshaan, who is also the political secretary to Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, told Malaysiakini.

The two assemblypersons will be charged together with another individual. They will be represented by Ramkarpal's team.
Meanwhile, Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, who is also a lawyer, said he will be representing a client who will be charged in the Kuala Kangsar Sessions Court in Perak over the LTTE matter.
"He is not a DAP member but he has asked for our help and I will be representing him," Rayer told Malaysiakini. Another person is also expected to be charged in the same court in Perak.
Seven other people will be charged in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor over the LTTE matter.
A total of 12 people, including current and former DAP, PKR, and PAS members, have been picked up by police since Oct 10 over their purported links to the LTTE, a defunct separatist group in Sri Lanka.
The separatist group, which fought against the Sri Lankan government for the independence of its Tamil-majority region, was defeated in 2009.
The Tamil cause in Sri Lanka receives sympathy from the Tamil diaspora, but the LTTE is considered by Malaysia to be a terrorist organisation. - Mkini
