Key Amanah leaders sit out re-election, others defeated again

Key personalities in Amanah have sat out of the party's re-election while those who re-contested were again defeated.
The party held a fresh round of elections for 655 branches and 81 divisions after earlier ones were deemed to be void due to issues with the Registrar of Societies.
In Permatang Pauh, Amanah Youth deputy chief Faiz Fadzil (above) failed again to secure a spot in the 15 member division committee when the re-election was held on Oct 18. He had lost in the first elections as well.
Incumbent Permatang Pauh Amanah chief Dr Zaidi Zakaria was re-elected to the spot.
Meanwhile in Perak, former menteri besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin sat out the Gopeng division re-election yesterday. He had lost in the initial election.
Perak Amanah election committee chairperson Akhiruddin Taib said Nizar had wanted delegates to retain the committee that was elected the first time around.
Yesterday, Amanah women's wing head Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud (above) was also absent from among the candidates for the Puchong division committee.
She had won a seat in the committee previously. It is unclear if she had decided to sit out the election or was not nominated.
According to the Amanah election system, delegates are required to vote for their top 15 leaders from a field of candidates, after which the 15 elected candidates will then choose among themselves to fill the top positions, including the division chief and deputy. - Mkini
