PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak said the Pakatan Harapan only allocated RM100 to settle the government’s debt for this year and RM100 for next year.
He said PH leaders always use the term “settling past government’s debt” but in reality, they had never reduced the sum.
“Does anyone know how much was allocated in this year’s budget and next year’s budget to pay back the government’s debt? It was only RM100 a year.
“They (PH) never reduced the debt and there was no plan to do so. It was repeatedly used as an excuse,” he said.
Writing on his Facebook page, Najib attached a screenshot of the 2020 Budget’s allocation for operating expenses, projected at RM34.9 billion.
In an item numbered “011000” under national debt, the amount of RM100 is listed as the amount to partly settle what the government is owing.
Najib said the PH government had increased the national debt three times faster after it took over last year.
“That is the reason why the country’s debt has spiked to RM810 billion today compared to RM686.8 billion at the end of 2017,” he said. - FMT
