ANWAR Ibrahim met Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today as rumours continued to swirl about plots to form a new government without DAP and Amanah.
In a brief post on his Facebook page, Anwar said he met the Prime Minister at his office in Putrajaya.
“We discussed a range of issues and recent developments in the country and overseas,” he said in the short post.
On Wednesday, Anwar told reporters in Parliament that Hishammuddin Hussein approached him about forming a new government with Pakatan Harapan, minus DAP and Amanah.
“He should deny or confirm this. If he denied, good,” Anwar told reporters during before heading off for lunch.
Dr Mahathir said those accused of planning to form a new government without DAP and Amanah could attempt to do so.
“They can try,” he told journalists when quizzed on the matter in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday morning, while denying that he had met Hishammuddin to discuss this matter.
For his part, Hishammuddin ridiculed the allegations, including those of his advocacy of race-based carried in news reports.
“Where did I write that we want to sideline DAP and Amanah?” he said to reporters at the Parliament lobby on the same day.
“Where did I speak about racial politics? I spoke about unity, so either they didn’t read my writing or purposely ignored it.”
On Tuesday, PH ticked off Hishammuddin “and his colleagues”, urging them to stop pushing the idea of a government without DAP and Amanah.
“Hishammuddin, in his writing and interviews, has signalled a tendency to return to race-based politics and governance,” PH secretaries-general said in a joint statement.
