PARLIAMENT | Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said that Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Malaysia Aviation Group Bhd (MAGB) have shortlisted four candidates as a strategic investment partner for Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAS).
"Khazanah and MAGB invited 20 strategic partners in August 2019 and in September, an evaluation was carried out on all the offers and finally at this time, we have a shortlist of four investors.
"We expect that by the end of this year or latest by early 2020, a decision will be made to identify a strategic partner to strengthen MAS," Azmin said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to Alexander Nanta Linggi (GPS-Kapit) who had asked whether it WAS true that Japan was planning to take over MAS.
However, under the non-disclosure agreement, the government cannot provide or reveal more information about the strategic investors involved, Azmin said.
Even though MAS' performance had improved recently, he said there was still a need to review its business model in a more holistic manner.
This included identifying strategic partners which could form the required synergy for MAS to benefit in the long-term, he explained. - Mkini
