Why are MyKad issued to Sabah illegal immigrants not cancelled, asks SAPP

SAPP secretary-general Yong We Kong says many illegal immigrants in Sabah had obtained their MyKad through dubious means.
KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah opposition party has accused the federal government of double standards when it cancelled MyKad sold to Chinese nationals in Penang but failed to give due attention to illegal immigrants being issued identity documents in the state.
The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) said action should have been taken against those responsible in aiding the issuance of identity cards to illegal immigrants through the infamous “Projek IC”.
“The home ministry has been so efficient by giving special attention to the Penang case but seems to have neglected the more severe problem facing our citizens in Sabah.
“It is common knowledge in Sabah that there are hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who might have obtained their MyKad through dubious means and now can vote in the elections.
“The people who were involved (in issuing the MyKad) should be considered traitors of the country,” SAPP secretary-general Yong We Kong said.
Deputy Home Minister Azis Jamman told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that all the MyKad sold to Chinese nationals in Penang recently had been cancelled.
Azis said action would be taken against similar cases detected by the authorities.
“If the National Registration Department finds any MyKad being issued the wrong way, it will be cancelled without compromise. Anyone found to be involved in this activity will be subjected to severe acts of impunity.
“The ministry has given full authority to the police to conduct a thorough investigation so that those involved can be prosecuted,” he said.
Yong said it was common knowledge that illegal immigrants with dubious MyKad existed in the electoral rolls in Sabah
“The government should tackle this problem immediately because it is a threat to our national sovereignty and security,” he said, adding that it had also abruptly changed Sabah’s socio-political landscape. - FMT
