KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah has risen slightly but the situation has improved in Kelantan, Melaka and Johor while it remains unchanged in Selangor.

In Kedah, the number of evacuees rose to 53 people from 13 families with one relief centre opening in Bandar Baharu, at Surau Kampung Berjaya, housing 13 people from three families, as of 8pm, compared to 42 people from 11 families this evening.

“Heavy rain caused the water level to rise, affecting three houses in Kampung Berjaya in Bagan Samak sub-district. The drainage system that is stuck also caused water to flow too slowly,” Kedah civil defence force’s disaster management committee secretariat division chief Suhaimi Mohd Zain said in a statement, adding that the centre at Sungai Seluang Mosque in Kulim was housing 40 people from 10 families.

In Selangor, the number of flood evacuees in the state remained at 184 people from 51 families since this evening.

In Melaka, the number of evacuees dropped to 59 people from 16 families as of 8pm compared to 64 people from 18 families this evening.
