GE15 | Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim declared that if appointed as prime minister, he would forgo his salary in solidarity with Malaysians who are struggling with rising prices of goods.
According to The Vibes, the PKR president claimed the people were “sick” with prime ministers living lavish lifestyles while the common folk are struggling financially.
“I will be ashamed to take a prime minister’s salary while the people suffer with rising prices of goods.
“In Islam, power is a responsibility, not a privilege,” Anwar (above) told a crowd during a campaign talk at Kalabakan today.
The veteran politician vowed to change Malaysian politics if Harapan becomes the federal government, as there would be no more bloated administration with many ministers and deputy ministers like the past governments.
“There were 70 ministers under BN. What have they done? The people are suffering with the rising of goods prices but 70 ministers cannot do anything to help the situation.”
Corruption blocking Sabah’s progress
In the meantime, Anwar stressed that it was not difficult to develop Sabah but it was hindered by graft.
“What is it so hard? Malaysia has been independent for almost 60 years. (Certain parts of Sabah) have terrible roads, no electricity and water supply, and hospitals are far away.
“If no one steals money, the money (for development) is enough,” he said.
Anwar added that even though there are people mired in poverty in the peninsula, it could not be disputed that Sabah has been neglected development-wise, and he would bring development to the region if he is appointed prime minister.
In the Kalabakan parliamentary seat, Harapan is fielding Noraini Abdul Ghapur, the eldest child of the constituency’s former MP and Umno member, Abdul Ghapur Salleh.
For the 15th general election (GE15), Noraini is in a five-way fight with incumbent Ma’mun Sulaiman (Warisan), Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy (Umno), Nur Aini Abdul Rahman (Pejuang) and Muhammad Dhiauddi N Hassan (independent). - Mkini
