PETALING JAYA: Former Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin says although she is disappointed at failing to defend her seat in the general election, she is grateful for being the constituency’s representative for the past 15 years.
Zuraida also said she had accepted the election results, which saw her lose her deposit after obtaining only 4,589 votes.
“I want to express my gratitude to the people of Ampang for their unwavering support, which means a lot to me,” she said in a statement.
Zuraida also congratulated Rodziah Ismail from Pakatan Harapan and hoped her successor would serve the people of Ampang well.
This was Zuraida’s first time running as a Parti Bangsa Malaysia member, having left Bersatu in May this year.
Zuraida contested against eight others, including Rodziah, who won the seat after securing 56,754 votes.
Other members of the newly formed party didn’t fare much better. While Larry Sng retained his seat in Julau, Sarawak, no other PBM members were able to mount a successful campaign at the federal or state level. - FMT
