PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli was detained by the police to prevent him from speaking in Parliament, claimed former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"Rafizi doesn't stop talking in Parliament.
"So if for two or three days he's kept (in lock-up), he can't talk," he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.
The Pandan lawmaker was arrested outside the Parliament gates under the Official Secrets Act on Tuesday, and has been remanded till tomorrow.
The current Parliament session ended today.
Today was also the day when the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on 1MDB was tabled in the House.
Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia has said that the report will be debated in the next Parliament session.
Rafizi was detained under the OSA after leaking classified documents regarding the Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) and 1MDB.
This is in regard to his claims that the 1MDB's financial problems had caused LTAT to be unable to pay gratuity to veterans. -Mkini
