PETALING JAYA: The Deputy Prime Minister post should have been given to Umno as soon as the Perikatan Nasional government was formed in March last year, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
The Umno secretary-general said it was because Umno was the largest party with 43 seats in the unity government, reported Sinar Harian.
“In politics, we must be fair. Otherwise, the coalition will not be stable,” he said after handing over food packs to headmasters and school principals at a drive-through programme at his Pontian parliamentary service centre in Benut on Sunday (July 11).
Meanwhile, Ahmad also refuted a letter that claimed Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had resigned from his post last week.
He said there was no movement within the party asking the president to quit because there is no reason to do so, as Ahmad Zahid’s cases are still in court and he has not been found guilty of any offence.
Ahmad also urged the people and Umno supporters to only refer to Umno’s official social media platforms for information about the party. - Star
