BALING: The Fire and Rescue Department rescued six families stranded in Kampung Banggol Derom here after floodwaters rose to 1.2 metres earlier in the day.
In the operation, 28 people, including 11 children, were evacuated at 1.13pm after their homes were inundated.
District Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Jamil Mat Daud said a rescue team was dispatched promptly after receiving distress calls at 8.43 am.
"Upon arrival, we found flooding caused by river overflow in the area. Six houses near the riverbank were inundated with four feet (1.2m) of water.
"Our team used boats to transfer the victims to safety," he said in a statement.
He added that the victims were temporarily relocated to Surau Kampung Banggol Derom.
"Monitoring operations were conducted to ensure the area was completely safe before the rescue operation was concluded." - NST
