KDM to go solo in Sabah polls, says Peter Anthony

PETALING JAYA: 

Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) will go solo in the upcoming Sabah elections, says its president Peter Anthony.

Utusan Borneo reported him as saying in a press conference today that he is confident KDM will do well on its own, despite the party’s small size, and pointed to its victory over Parti Bersatu Sabah in Kota Marudu during the last general election.

This shows that Sabahans want change and will give parties like KDM a chance, because of our direction and reforms,

 he said.

Peter said the party is eyeing over 30 seats with a particular focus on Kadazan Dusun and Murut-majority areas.

He claimed that the majority of grassroots voters, especially those coming from these areas, will choose KDM in the upcoming election.

Last month, Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor hinted that the state assembly elections could be held before the legislature’s term ends late next year.

State parties have since begun preparations for the upcoming state polls, with Warisan president Shafie Apdal saying his party would defend the seats it won in the last state election and is open to the possibility of alliances with local parties.

Meanwhile, Sabah Umno’s elections director Jeffery Nor Mohamed had said that the party is treating the period from now until February as critical, and is actively engaging and aiding local communities to maintain visibility and support.

Peter also said KDM would consider cooperating with other parties after the polls are over.

He said it is important now for the party to work hard at the grassroots level and become formidable in the upcoming state elections. - FMT
