PETALING JAYA: Police have launched an investigation into scuffles between two groups of football fans that occurred at the Bandar Tasik Selatan LRT station early this morning.
Cheras police chief Aidil Bolhassan said police received a report this afternoon from an auxiliary policeman at the station over the incident, which included acts of vandalism.
In a statement, he said the case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, and Section 427 for committing mischief.
A video clip of the incident has also been widely shared on social media, with netizens condemning the behaviour of the football fans, especially in vandalising public property.
Aidil said the incident happened after midnight when a group of football fans encountered another group of fans upon exiting a train.
He said 20 to 30 people then started acting aggressively, punching each other and damaging the train by throwing bins against it and kicking the train door.
“This forced the train to remain at the station for approximately eight minutes,” he said.
Hesaid the situation was brought under control when the auxiliary policeman and other officers on duty stepped in.
Separately, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd said it has lodged a police report on the incident as well as the damage to its train and is working closely with the police to ensure appropriate action is taken against those involved.
It said its auxiliary police team removed the football fans from the train station and no injuries were reported.
“Prasarana deeply regrets this incident and will not tolerate any form of violence and aggressive behaviour in its stations and trains,” it said. - FMT
