
Loke said the issue has been debated for years and that a policy review is timely, given DAP’s extensive role in federal and state governments over the past 17 years.
He said the current policy might be too rigid, particularly in cases where state rulers have expressed their intention to confer titles on DAP lawmakers.
“Take Selangor, for example, Ng Suee Lim was offered a title. But under party rules, he would have to decline the honour,” he said in his speech at the party’s 18th national congress today.
He also said any nominations for titles should be reviewed by the party’s central executive committee (CEC).
“We don’t want a culture where someone wants to become a Datuk within three months of taking office,” he said. - FMT
