Perlis govt seeking 'win-win' solution to dispute between Speaker, ex-Pas reps

KANGAR: The Perlis government is seeking a win-win resolution to the legal dispute between State Legislative Assembly Speaker Rus'sele Eizan and three former Pas assemblymen.

Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah said he hoped the Pas leadership could help in resolving the matter to ensure political stability and safeguard the welfare of the people.

"I suggest that the three be accepted back as assemblymen, even as independents, because they still hold the mandate and rights as elected representatives to care for their constituents.

"I see a win-win approach where the Speaker can make an informed decision and the three assemblymen withdraw their suits," he said, proposing a meeting between the four parties.

He said this after receiving a courtesy call from Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the Seri Putra Complex yesterday.

Abu Bakar, who is also Perlis Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman and state Bersatu chief, said the current impasse has left constituents in the three areas uncertain regarding aid channels and welfare matters.

"If the proposed settlement cannot be implemented, I will establish Menteri Besar service centres in those three constituencies," he said.

He added that the proposal had been conveyed to Muhyiddin and Pas spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin, and is expected to be discussed by the Pas Syura Council.

On Jan 2, Guar Sanji assemblyman Mohd Ridzuan Hashim, Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong), and Saad Seman (Chuping) filed an originating summons against the Speaker to challenge the declaration of their seats as vacant.

The trio lost their positions after Pas terminated their memberships over their involvement in the Perlis political crisis.

Meanwhile, Abu Bakar said that while the state government was not providing legal counsel to the Speaker for the suit, Rus'sele receives allocations provided for under the state constitution. - NST
