SHAH ALAM: Police have arrested four people, including a 17-year-old, suspected of stealing a donation box from Masjid Kristal in Seksyen 7.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the suspects, aged between 17 and 26, were detained during raids across the Klang Valley on Feb 22 and 24.
The operations, conducted between 12.30am and 3am by Shah Alam district police, targeted locations in Seksyen 13, Arte Subang West, Seri Kembangan, and outside Sky Suite KLCC.
"Checks revealed all suspects have prior criminal and drug records. One suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine," Shazeli said in a statement today.
Police seized a Toyota Avanza, four mobile phones, and RM200 in cash during the raids.
The arrests follow a viral social media post on Threads by the mosque management, which reported the theft of a steel donation box at 4am on Feb 22.
The discarded donation box was reportedly found later in Seksyen 13.
Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol had earlier confirmed that the suspects were spotted fleeing the scene in a silver Toyota Avanza.
Shazeli advised mosque and surau committees to ensure closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems are functional and to empty donation boxes regularly as a preventive measure. - NST
