KUALA LUMPUR: A 51-year-old lawyer has become an instant millionaire after being named the first grand prize winner of the Bank Rakyat Akaun Pelaburan-i Rizq Plus Millionaire Category draw for 2026.

Normila Hussain from Shah Alam, took home RM1 million after being announced as the main winner of the draw.

The mother of four admitted she was still in shock after being informed of her win, describing it as a blessing ahead of Ramadan, which begins next week.

"When I received the call from Bank Rakyat last week, I thought it was a scammer," she said.

"Only after I received an official email from Bank Rakyat confirming the matter did I fully believe it.

"Even though I was informed last week, until today I am still shocked to have become a millionaire overnight," she said when met at the prize presentation ceremony held at Bank Rakyat Twin Towers here today.

The prize was presented by Bank Rakyat chief financial officer Nor Haimee Zakaria.

Normila said she joined the investment scheme two years ago by opening an account at the Bank Rakyat Shah Alam branch.

"I invested because I was attracted by the many benefits and returns offered to investors compared with other banks.

"It was only last year that I learned about the draw, and I never imagined I would be selected to win RM1 million," she said.

Normila said she has yet to make plans on how to utilise her winnings.

Earlier, Bank Rakyat announced a new prize and rewards structure for the 2026 Rizq Plus Investment Account-i, offering a total of RM10.8 million in prizes and set to create four new millionaires.

Nor Haimee said the introduction of the new rewards structure reflected the bank's continued commitment to cultivating consistent saving and investment habits among the public.

"Through Rizq Plus, we not only offer shariah-compliant investment opportunities, but also meaningful rewards to our customers.

"With total prizes worth RM10.8 million, more customers stand a chance of becoming millionaires regardless of their background or investment amount," he said at the launch of the bank's Ramadan-Raya campaign here.

Nor Haimee added that customers need only open an account with a minimum investment of RM100 to be eligible for the various prizes on offer, with more than 10,000 winners expected to receive rewards throughout the campaign.
