Perdana Fellowship Programme returns this year with 62 candidates

PARLIAMENT | The Perdana Fellowship Programme will return this year with a new cohort of 62 fresh graduates selected to receive mentorship from selected ministers, deputy ministers, and the office of the chief secretary to the government.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol said the selected candidates will undergo their fellowships from June to October this year.

“The programme was suspended in 2024 and 2025 to make way for a study by the Institute for Youth Research Malaysia (IYRES).

“It (programme) was first launched in 2013, and so after 10 years, the time came for it to be re-evaluated,” Mordi told the Dewan Rakyat during question time today.

Based on the IYRES study, Mordi said 95 percent of respondents cited improvements in terms of leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, while another 88.7 percent said it contributed to their career development.

“So I’m pleased to inform that this programme will continue this year.

“A total of 62 participants will be selected and placed as mentees to ministers, deputy ministers, the director-general of public service, and the chief secretary to the government,” he said in response to Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Independent-Kuala Kangsar).

He added that among improvements to be made are that all participants will be required to sign an integrity pledge, a centralised evaluation will be carried out to select the candidates, and eligibility will be limited to fresh graduates. - Mkini
