
KUALA LUMPUR: The parents of three boys have been arrested following a medical emergency in Kajang that left one child dead and two others receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Selangor Police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the district police received information from medical officers at Hospital Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin at around 9.01am today concerning the children who were brought to the emergency department.
"Preliminary investigations found that an 11-year-old boy died while being brought to the hospital, while two others, aged around 10 and 5, are currently receiving treatment in the ICU," he said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Following the incident, the children's parents, aged 35 and 44, were arrested today.
Police have urged those with information to contact investigation officer Insp Mohamad Razlan Arif at 016-473 0452 or the Kajang police headquarters operations room at 03-8925 8222.
It was reported that three boys were allegedly given methadone by their mother this morning. - NST
