IT APPEARS the axe will soon fall on former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli as he is bound to lose his membership in the party headed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The party has, for the second time, issued a letter of demand to the Pandan MP after his criticism of both PMX and his closest allies in PKR.
Various reports are now saying that Rafizi will finally be declared a non-member of PKR. His criticism of the party and statements made during the Yang Berhenti Menteri Podcast are now seen as a declaration from the MP that he has left the party.
To make things worse, Rafizi used an analogy from George Orwell’s satirical political novel Animal Farm.
In a video, he heavily criticised Anwar, comparing governance under his administration to the pig characters in the novel.
Rafizi himself explained in a video that the party plans to axe him soon, without having to fire him as a member.
He said PKR will state in its review of his responses to the party’s letter of demand that he has left the party, and the speaker of the house will also declare his seat as Pandan MP vacant.
An ally of Rafizi, Iswardy Morni, also made a similar statement on his Facebook page. He said the MP’s seat will be declared vacant and a by-election will be held to replace Rafizi.
“Rafizi Ramli will be officially declared as having left the PKR party. Therefore, he will be considered to have resigned by the party and the Speaker of the House,” he said.
“This means the Pandan seat becomes vacant. As a result, a by-election will take place in June or July. The candidate will be Tengku Zafrul. That’s the short version of the story,” Iswardy added.
He ended his post asking supporters whether they had already signed up for the #RealReform form and whether they are ready to jump in to help Rafizi win back the seat. — Focus Malaysia
