Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reportedly alleged that some officers from his ministry were “pressured” by “top people” in the government for attending events linked to BN during campaigning for the recent state elections.
The Malay Mail reported that Zahid, who is also rural and regional development minister, claimed the purported pressure came in the form of officers being questioned over their presence at the events, which he said was likely framed as civil servants participating in political activities.
“I know some of you before me here had been summoned (for questioning), probably facing pressure because of the political conflict,” Zahid (above), who is also BN chairperson, said at his ministry’s monthly assembly in Putrajaya.
“What is wrong with the officers attending ministry events, when coincidentally they are held in states holding elections?
“What is wrong with this? Don’t punish them just because they are loyal to the government of the day,” he added.
Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail has claimed she was neither informed nor consulted on the appointment of Azman Abidin, the prime minister’s political secretary, as Ampang’s “parliamentary coordinator”.

“One of my officers informed me after the official statement was posted on PKR’s Facebook page,” she was quoted as saying.
The appointment follows Rodziah’s discovery that she is the third PKR MP to be restricted from accessing the MyKhas portal, which manages parliamentary allocations.
Yesterday, Azman said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had entrusted him with the role to ensure that government initiatives are delivered in a more organised, efficient and effective manner.

Former Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Rantau state seat Dr Azizul Hakim Mahdi and his wife Noor Ameera Rahmat were charged at the Seremban Sessions Court with operating an unregistered private medical clinic.
Berita Harian reported that the couple, both 35 and directors of the company that was also charged, pleaded not guilty before judge Shahrul Rizal Majid.
The company allegedly operated the clinic without registration under the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 at a premises in Taman Bandar Senawang at about 11.30am on July 8.
The company faces a fine of up to RM500,000. Azizul and Noor Ameera, who were jointly charged as company directors, face a maximum fine of RM300,000, up to six years’ jail, or both.
The court fixed Sept 17 for mention and submission of documents.
More than 100 representatives from 40 Penan communities in Baram have unanimously rejected a proposal to construct hydroelectric dams along the Tutoh River, saying the project poses a serious threat to their customary lands, livelihoods, and the future of the Penan people.
The communities said the Tutoh River has sustained generations of Penan people by providing food sources, clean water, transport routes, and access to customary forests central to their culture, identity and way of life.
In a formal objection submitted to Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sarawak Energy, they called for the project's cancellation, citing concerns over the destruction of native customary rights (NCR) lands, forests, river ecosystems, biodiversity and the possible displacement of communities.

Keruan director Komeok Joe said the communities did not agree to the dams being built in their territory, arguing that the project would not improve their well-being but instead damage the forests and rivers that have supported their people for generations.
