PETALING JAYA:
A 27-year-old man will be charged in Singapore tomorrow over videos posted on social media in which he allegedly made insulting and profane remarks about the Muslim community.

Singapore police said they received a report on March 1 but found that the man had left the country before it was lodged.

He was deported from Malaysia today with the assistance of Malaysian police and arrested upon his arrival in Singapore, The Straits Times reported.

If convicted, he faces up to five years in jail, a fine, or both.

Singapore police also said the man is assisting them in a separate investigation into a video showing a person stepping on a Quran.

According to The Straits Times, the man arrested is believed to be the same individual seen in the video, which police said was filmed on a public bus in Singapore.

On March 7, police issued five orders to Meta, which operates major social media platforms, requiring it to disable access to the offending content for users in Singapore.

Police said they viewed acts that threatened racial and religious harmony seriously.

“Any person who makes remarks or acts in a manner that can cause enmity, hatred, ill will or hostility between different racial or religious groups in Singapore will be dealt with swiftly and firmly in accordance with the law,” they said. - FMT
