Another student arrested in sports school murder probe

Police have arrested another Form 4 student in connection with the death of a junior who was allegedly assaulted for breaking the school’s rules.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad said the student had been placed on remand for six days to assist in the murder investigation.

“The suspect is on remand from Sept 28 to Oct 3,” he was quoted by Kosmo as saying.

Police had earlier arrested and remanded a Form 4 student for six days until Oct 1, for allegedly “punishing” Idlan Fareeq Shahril for his “offence”.

Alzafny said the victim was caught vaping by a warden on Sept 23 before the senior students allegedly took further action against him.

He said an initial post-mortem conducted at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital last Saturday was inconclusive in determining the victim’s cause of death.

He said checks also found that the victim had a history of asthma and had received treatment for the condition until he was five.

Police have recorded statements from a total of 68 witnesses, comprising 51 students, five hostel wardens, and four teachers.

Idlan was found unconscious in the dormitory of a sports school in Kuala Pilah, before being rushed to Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Idlan’s aunt had earlier alleged that a senior at the school hostel assaulted her nephew.

Education minister Fadhlina Sidek has since ordered an immediate audit of the school’s safety compliance. - FMT
