MACC arrests ex-senior officer over RM42mil paid to several companies

PETALING JAYA:

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a former senior management officer of a corporation on suspicion of abusing his power in making operating expense payments totalling approximately RM42 million to several companies.

A source said the man in his 50s was arrested at about 1pm yesterday at his residence in the Klang Valley.

“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect allegedly committed the offences in 2017, making payments related to operating expenses to several companies that the suspect is believed to have interests in,” said the source.

The arrest follows an MACC investigation into losses suffered by UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd in 2023.

MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrest when contacted and said the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for the abuse of power.

He previously said that the issues under investigation in the UiTM Holdings probe included a RM42 million payment linked to a 50MW solar project in Gambang, Pahang.

He said the money was allegedly used for purposes unrelated to the solar project, and the payment was made without the approval of the UiTM Holdings board.

The suspect is expected to be charged in court on Thursday. - FMT
