Missing Orang Asli woman found dead after 6-day search

 Police say the case is being investigated as sudden death.

KUANTAN:

An Orang Asli woman who had been missing since last Wednesday was found dead in a swamp about 500m from her home in Kampung Lesong, Rompin, Pahang, today.

Rompin police chief Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the body of Kuang Poh, 73, was found by a search and rescue team at 11.50am on the sixth day of the search.

“The team brought the victim’s body out (of the swamp) at 1.05pm before it was sent to Rompin Hospital’s forensic department,” he said in a statement.

He said the cause of death could not be ascertained as the body was decomposed, adding that the case is being investigated as a sudden death.

Sharif Shai said the search team was divided into two groups and conducted searches at several targeted locations within a 5km radius, with assistance from drone units and the Pahang police headquarters’ K9 unit.

The woman was reported missing in the forest near Kampung Lesong after she went fishing in the village’s swamp area on Sept 23. - FMT
