Azmin offers rent-free homes to families evicted after demolition

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali said today that the state government will offer new homes to families evicted after the demolition of two houses and three shophouses near the Sultan Abdul Aziz Airport in Subang.
In a statement, the menteri besar said that the two families will be offered public low-cost (PPR) accommodation in Kota Damansara, which will be facilitated by the state government-linked estate agent Selangor Housing and Property Sdn Bhd (PHHSB).
“The state government hopes that both families receive an accommodation that is comfortable and conducive to a better life,” the statement read.
Earlier today, nine Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members were arrested after protesting the demolition near the airport, which was ordered by Malaysian Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) for development purposes. All nine protesters have since been released on police bail.

The demolition of the houses, occupied by former airport mosque committee members, was carried out by authorities from the Petaling District Land Office and the Shah Alam City Council.
PSM secretary-general A Sivarajan said that Azmin failed to respond to calls for him to put a halt to the demolition.
The party also claimed that the Selangor government insisted it was powerless to intervene, despite the issue involving state land.- Mkini
